I agree with BW the wing size and shape suggest a Buzzard, was it soaring? were its wing beats slow? the colouring on the underside of the wings suggest buzzard too. Hope this helps.
Hi David, we lived just outside Derby before we moved to Mull – I remember being out in the garden and nearly choking when I heard the mew of a buzzard – sure enough it was – also good spot for hobby too!x
